Virtual House Music Solo Competition 2020

There was an outstanding array of talent in this year's virtual House Music Solo Competition, with wonderful support on Zoom from friends, colleagues and families. The adjudicator was our very own Director of Music, Mr James McKelvey who gave exceptional feedback to all performers.

Even though there have been restrictions for performing music due to the pandemic, this did not stop our musicians from entering the competition. Each of the eighty competitors sent in a video entry, which were then whittled down to fourteen finalists. There were two categories in the final: Intermediate and Advanced.

In the Intermediate category, the winners were as follows -
Highly Commended: Joseph B on Xylophone and George H on Alto Saxophone (both from School House)
Runner-up: Oboist Eleanor B (Ottilie Hild)
Winner: Electric Guitarist, Hamish C (Walters) who performed Trivium’s Like Light to the Flies.

In the Advanced category, the winners were -
Highly Commended: Pianists, Evelyn L (Webber) and Sophia M (Thomas Cookes)
Runner-up: Singer, Gabriel B (Lupton)
Winner: Pianist, Tristan C (Elmshurst) who gave a beautiful performance of Janacek’s In The Mists Movement 1.
