U13 Rugby Tour
Posted: 14/10/2014
On Friday 10th October, forty boys from the U13A, B, C and D rugby squads departed on the short journey to the Welsh capital, Cardiff, for a three day tour. In what was an action packed weekend, the boys kicked off the tour by bowling at a nearby multiplex where we managed to win umpteen bags of Haribos. Andy, the duty manager, could not believe the quality of the bowling from the pupils and the staff especially.
Saturday saw us play our first match versus Cyfarthfa High School, Merthyr Tydfil. The U13A’s won 36-0 and the U13 B/C, playing against their U12A’s, lost 10-15 in what was as evenly a contested match as the score line suggests. Both games were played in an excellent spirit and we were well hosted throughout the morning. The afternoon saw us visit the magnificent Millennium Stadium, home to Welsh rugby and one of the iconic rugby stadiums anywhere in the world. The evening saw us visit the Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay for the second night running to watch ‘The Maze Runner’ at the Odeon.
On Sunday, both teams played at Mumbles Rugby Club, situated on the edge of The Gower peninsula, just to the west of Swansea. The combined U13B/C team played Dunvant Rugby Club’s U13A’s and a 0-35 loss does not do justice to how well we played at times but as one would expect from a club ‘A’ team, they were just too strong for us but we were competitive. The U13A’s played Mumbles Rugby Club U13A’s and just about held on to win 41-27. After a stroll on Mumbles Pier, we made our way over to the Liberty Stadium, Swansea to watch The Ospreys versus The Cardiff Blues in a Guinness Pro 12 match. An excellent day was rounded off with a visit to a nearby Nando’s Restaurant.
The boys were fantastic ambassadors for the school in many ways and a great time was had by all.
