On Monday, the U13 girls had their first experience of XI a-side hockey playing in the County Tournament. Bromsgrove got off to a good start with a 1-0 win over King’s Worcester. In their next match against RGS, the girls went 2-0 down in the first few minutes but managed to fight back and secure a 2-2 draw with a short corner after the final whistle. This meant that Bromsgrove finished as County Runners up only on goal difference - well done to all the girls involved.
On Tuesday, the U13 girls travelled to Cannock Hockey Club for the Midlands Regional Hockey Finals (VII a-side). Bromsgrove started superbly with a 5-0 victory versus Church Stretton. They continued to play excellent attacking hockey in their second match against Spratton Hall to record another 5-0 win. Their final group match was against Bablake, a much tighter game but the girls worked hard to secure a 1-0 win which meant that Bromsgrove finished top of their group and progressed through to the quarter final.
The quarter-final was a closely fought match against King Edward VI in which Bromsgrove conceded their first goal of the tournament but the girls demonstrated good team spirit to score an equaliser, the final score was 1-1 and Bromsgrove progressed through to the semi final after winning 3-2 on penalty flicks.
The girls played some excellent hockey in the semi final against Trent College but were unable to capitalise on their chances and the game ended 0-0. Bromsgrove took part in another tense penalty flick competition and the scores remained tied at 3-3 and therefore went to sudden death which Bromsgrove unfortunately lost 4-5; narrowly missing out on a place at National Finals.
Congratulations to the following girls for playing their best hockey of the season: Ellen A, Anabel C, Megan L, Beth L, Hannah L, Isabelle J, Tasha M, Lucy M, Katie M and Katie R.
