Pre-Prep play the Blues

It’s not every day we welcome a guitar hero into School, but on Tuesday, Pre-Prep pupils were excited to welcome international Blues star Sam Coulson who visited all the way from Canada.

Sam rose to fame as the lead guitarist in the band, Asia, following Steve Howe’s departure. He then went on to star as Brian May’s counterpart in the QUEEN musical, We Will Rock You. He has toured the world with the show and with his band many times, as well as releasing a number of solo albums in his own right.

Sam delivered a wonderful assembly to Years 1 and 2, talking about the guitar, showing some of the incredible sounds it can make and regaling them with tales about his early days when learning the instrument. The assembly came to a crescendo when he helped the children to compose their very own Blues song, which the children performed with Sam accompanying on guitar, ably backed up by Mrs Martin on keys. It was absolutely electric to hear him play and we hope that we have inspired the next generation of musicians.
