Greenpower International Final 2021

It has been a couple of years since the kit car team was able to attend a Greenpower final due to COVID-19. With thanks to the fortitude of our parental body and a smattering of dedicated students, the team was able to attend this year’s international final at Goodwood after easily winning the qualification stages at Aintree and Croft.

The car was prepped and loaded into the van before its long three hour journey to the legendary Goodwood race circuit, home to the Goodwood Revival and world renowned Festival of Speed. Scrutineering was quick and successful and the team went about driving the circuit in the practice season with ease. The car performed well and the changes were swift.

The new format meant that the team would have four separate twenty minute races over the course of the afternoon, which is something the car is not built for, but due to COVID restrictions in place, this was the way that it was to be; we were just glad to be racing again. Races 1, 2 and 3 were driven extremely well and we settled into a tussle between 2nd and 3rd. Race 4, however, was a little more eventful and after a brief stint in 2nd place, the team fell to 3rd with battery issues.

The students involved had been working on the car for over twelve months and deserved everything they the got from the day. They are hard working and never faltered once.

The team finished as third placed kit car and 17th overall, which was our highest F24 finish ever; this was out of eighty teams on the day and hundreds in the entire series.

The following pupils should be commended for all their hard work throughout the year: Team captain Ollie R-H, Jack R, Jacob M, Harvey P, William J, Amelie J, Ffion W and Lucy C.
