Futures Guest Lecture - Fully Booked

Posted: 29/08/2017

*Lord Jones' Masterclass is now fully booked. Only those with reserved seats will be admitted*

We are delighted that Lord Digby Jones will be presenting a guest lecture entitled “The Current Challenges facing Business” on Thursday, 14th September.

The lecture will be held in the LRC Lecture Theatre, 7.00pm to 8.00pm. This presentation is open to all pupils, parents and guardians who wish to attend. The aim of guest masterclasses is to broaden student knowledge, and therefore we encourage students that are not studying a Business related course to also attend the event. Universities and employers seek breadth and exploring outside the prescribed curriculum is a perfect way to do this.

Lord Digby Jones is an Old Bromsgrovian and has spent a hugely successful career in Business and Politics serving as the Director General of the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) (2000-2006) and Minister of State for Trade and Investment (2007-2008). Lord Jones now runs his own Company, Digby Jones LLP, and advises in a number of paid and unpaid roles. He serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Triumph Motorcycles Ltd, On Logistics Ltd, Celixir Ltd and Thatcher’s Cider Ltd. He is Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of the Unipart Expert Practices (UEP) Division and chairs the Advisory Board of Argentex LLP. He is a Non-Executive Director of URICA Ltd and Leicester Tigers plc. He is Senior Adviser to Harvey Nash plc and Babcock International Group plc. He is Corporate Ambassador to Aon Risk Solutions and Jaguar Cars. Lord Jones is also Chairman of the Governors of Stratford Upon Avon College. He sits in the House of Lords as a non-aligned Crossbench Peer.

Lord Jones was Head Boy at Bromsgrove School and read Law at University College London. In 2011 Lord Jones published his first book Fixing Britain: The Business of Reshaping Our Nation which was shortlisted for the 2012 CMI Management Book of the Year. In 2017 Fixing Business: Making Profitable Business Work for the Good of All, was published.

He regularly appears on television, radio and in the newspapers, being known for his firm views on numerous aspects of life in a globalised economy. He is an active public speaker at events and engagements all over the UK and overseas fulfilling his vision of promoting socially inclusive wealth creation and fighting for business and reform of public services. He champions the UK’s role in the world as a home of global competitiveness.
