The climbing club went to Snowdonia to rock climb outdoors, under the watchful eye of a well-qualified and inspirational instructor from Arete Outdoors in Llanrug.
After leaving very early from School on the Saturday morning, our students were taken directly to a rock face for some top-rope climbing, where they practised belaying each other and climbing on natural rock formations.
The next stop was RAC boulders, close to Capel Curig, where they learnt the joys of bouldering and honed their climbing techniques on challenging problems. As well as bouldering, several students had an introduction to lead climbing and belaying, where they had the opportunity to practise placing protection in a rock crack, while lead climbing.
On Sunday, they started the morning with a long 40m abseil and finished the weekend with a hike to a crag on Holyhead mountain, where they climbed several top-roped climbs, including a strange thrutching climb into a cave and climbing a finger and hand jamming crack.
