Children's Author visits the Prep School
Posted: 28/03/2014
As part of Bromsgrove Prep School’s World Book Day celebrations in March, the popular children’s author, Ali Sparkes, came to talk to pupils in Years 5, 6 and 8.
Ali spoke about writing her first Enid Blyton style adventure story in her early teens which led to a career in journalism, followed by writing children’s stories. However, it was not an easy journey for her: there were many setbacks on her road to success. Ali read aloud one of her rejection letters which made Prep pupils aware that if an ambition is strong enough, then it will become reality but great determination is needed! They heard excerpts from Ali’s stories and pupils had the opportunity to buy signed copies of her books.
Everyone had a chance to ask questions about what it’s like to write stories for a living and how to avoid writer’s block. They all enjoyed Ali’s visit so much that she has agreed to return for World Book Day 2016. Her latest book, Destination Earth is out in June, as well as her first foray into non-fiction, SCRATCH THE RAT'S BAD REPUTATIONS. Both books will definitely be found in the Prep Library for Ali’s many Bromsgrovian fans.
