Posted: 05/01/2015
Captain Eustace Jotham VC was born in Kidderminster in 1883. Captain Jotham attended Bromsgrove School from 1899 to 1901. He was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for gallantly giving his own life in trying to rescue one of his men who had lost his horse in action on the North West Frontier, what is now Pakistan.
A century to the day after this brave act, Kidderminster residents will have the chance to see the Victoria Cross on display at the Town Hall.
The Victoria Cross will be on display in the Corn Exchange at the Town Hall, Kidderminster on Wednesday 7 January 2015 from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
The official unveiling of the Victoria Cross paving stone to commemorate Captain Jotham will be at 2:00pm on Wednesday 7 January 2015. The paving stone will be installed near the foot of the Angel of Peace, outside St Mary’s and All Saints Church in Kidderminster.
The paving stone to commemorate Captain Jotham has been provided by the Department for Communities and Local Government as part of a Government initiative to commemorate all the First World War recipients of the VC.
The Headmaster, Peter Clague, Deputy Headmaster, Philip Bowen and Heads of School Emily Collie and Niall Hegarty will represent the School at the ceremony.
