Students undertaking BTEC Business have been working with the School Shop to learn about different visual merchandising and display techniques.
Window and internal displays, product positioning and effective promotional techniques are all important aspects of visual merchandising designed to increase store traffic and sales volume.
In the School Shop, pupils have tried out product placement, the use of mannequins and props, and discussed the legal and safety aspects of visual merchandising.
The various techniques vary according to the type and size of a retail business and the products it sells. In the classroom, students investigated the various techniques that different businesses use as part of their research into creating an effective display.
The unit content provided students with an insight into the elements used to create attractive displays, including product information, colour, light, space, touch and sound.
The displays created in the School Shop form part of their assessment for Unit 16, demonstrating some of the practical skills and techniques that retailers use to tempt customers into stores.
