Athlete Visit

Bromsgrove Pre-Prep welcomed athlete and former soldier, Ben Gallagher to the School for a talk and some outdoor team building sessions. Ben now represents Great Britain as an elite athlete in endurance events and outdoor expeditions. Having won medals at the Invictus Games for cycling and rowing, he became the PR3 2000m British, European and World Indoor Rowing Champion. Ben has now been selected for the Paralympic Academy Programme and, as part of the British Rowing Team, he is on the GB Para-Rowing pathway and is hoping to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympics this Summer.

Ben started the day with an informative presentation to the pupils, explaining a little about himself and the life changing experiences he has been through which have led him to where he is today. Ben was keen to share the message with our children that he believes everything happens for a reason but, with resilience, optimism and determination, everyone can find success.

Throughout the day, the children worked together in their year groups, taking part in various activities designed to develop physical and mental strength and skills. The focus of the day was not only on overcoming challenges but also to offer support to friends and understand how we can all benefit from accepting the support of the teams around us.

The children enjoyed an inspirational day with Ben and we would like to thank him and the Pre-Prep PA for providing this wonderful opportunity. At the end of the day, Ben was presented with a Pre-Prep ‘Going for Gold’ lapel pin and we would like to wish him well, with every possible success, on his journey to the Paralympics.
