Pre-Prep

Bromsgrove Pre-Preparatory and Nursery

The Pre-Preparatory and Nursery, together with the Preparatory and Senior Schools, provide continuity of education for children from age 2 to 18 years.

A Note from the Headmaster

I extend a very warm welcome to you and your child from everyone at Bromsgrove Pre- Preparatory and Nursery. Our School was founded in 1943 by Mrs Ottilie Hild as a private day school and was originally called Ottilie Hild School. In 1986 it became part of Bromsgrove School and moved to its present spacious and rural setting, on the outskirts of Bromsgrove, in 2000.

The Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School is a place where children have a memorable and positive start to their educational journey. We believe it is the early years, from the ages of two to seven, when the educational foundations are laid for everything that follows. Very young children are curious and enthusiastic; they are learning to learn. Our aim is to harness these qualities in an active, stimulating, happy and secure environment. We nurture children into confident, well prepared and highly motivated learners who will go on to achieve the best for themselves. At the same time, we help them to develop with good manners, self discipline, honesty and consideration for others, working and playing in a positive and rewarding way. The friendly, secure family atmosphere of the school encourages children to become independent learners and caring members of our community.

We would be delighted to show you around our school so that you can experience for yourself the happy and caring atmosphere that underpins all we do – please call or email Mrs Liberty Chance in our Admissions Department to arrange a visit.

Joining the Nursery and Pre-Prep
Prior to entry, children are invited to spend a morning in school with their prospective year group, during which informal assessments will take place. Children seeking admission into Year 2 will also be assessed more formally in Mathematics and English. This trial morning provides an opportunity for the children to experience life at Bromsgrove Pre-Preparatory and Pre-School and to get to know the children in their future class. If a child is moving from another school they will be asked to bring examples of their current work in Mathematics, English and Reading. We will also contact the child’s school for a written report about their academic achievements and behaviour.

Nursery
Children may join the Pre-School at the beginning of the term in which they turn two. Children are required to attend a minimum of five sessions per week to ensure they have access to the full range of the curriculum provided. However, sessions can be taken in any combination of full / half days regularly each week, if places are available.

Pre-Prep
Children join the Reception class of the Pre-Preparatory section in the September following their fourth birthday. Pupils may join the School in other year groups, subject to availability of space in each year group. Parents are encouraged to visit with their child before registering for a place. Prior to a place being offered, your child will be invited to spend a morning of informal assessment at the Pre-Preparatory & Pre-School and, where appropriate, a written report from the child's current school or nursery will be requested.
About the Nursery
Children may start in Nursery as Rising 2s from their second birthday. The Nursery provides a safe, secure, happy and stimulating environment and is set in its own building, within the grounds of the Pre-Preparatory School. Find out more about joining Bromsgrove's Nursery here.

We now offer 30 free hours through the Government Funding Scheme for eligible 3 and 4 year olds. Click here to read more.

About the Pre-Preparatory
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are based in the main part of the old house, where the modern facilities sit alongside sympathetically restored period features of the original stately home. If you are interested in finding out how your child can join the School, please visit our Admissions page.

After School Care
During term time, Aftercare is available every day of the week, from 3.15 – 6.00pm. In Aftercare, all of the children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of free choice activities, making the most of our indoor and outdoor resources and facilities. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed with the children continuing to benefit from the excellent supervision of our experienced and friendly Pre-Prep staff.

Tea is served at 4.30pm in the Dining Room, with a nutritious and popular menu that varies daily.

Please contact the Pre-Prep Office on 01527 579679 ext 204 for further details about bookings, charges and session timings for our Aftercare provision. Please be advised that advance booking is required as places are limited due to statutory staffing ratios. Please click here for the Aftercare Booking Form.
Holiday Club
The Holiday Club at the Pre-Preparatory School is open to current pupils from Nursery up to Year 2. It is based in the Nursery unit with free-flow access to the securely fenced garden area. Our main aim is for children to have fun in a safe but familiar environment supervised by our own experienced and qualified staff. Sessions involve daily arts and craft activities, outdoor play and the freedom to choose from a wide variety of toys, games, role play opportunities and construction activities.

We open from 8.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m. during most school holidays. A morning snack, cooked lunch and afternoon tea are all provided. A minimum of six pupils is necessary for any session to run.

During the summer holidays, pupils who have just left Year 2 are included in the Activity Camps based at the Preparatory School instead of the one at the Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School.

Transfer to Preparatory School after Year 2
It is expected that children will transfer to Bromsgrove Preparatory School but this is dependent on achieving a certain standard of work in Literacy and Numeracy. Issues of behaviour are also considered, where appropriate, during consultation between the Pre-Preparatory and the Preparatory School, prior to transfer.
