Dear Oakley Parents and Guardians
Last month, Lower and Upper Sixth Biology students completed the British Biology Olympiad, an international competition that stretches the most able and is designed for U6th students. This year over 18,500 students from over 1000 schools took part. Kalash and Ashna were among 10% of students who received a silver award. And Ayushma was among just 5% of students who achieved Gold!
Before half term, Lina showcased her linguistic skills at the "Joutes Oratoires" French debating competition, held at Repton School. She demonstrated exceptional commitment, preparing arguments for and against each motion entirely in French, against four other schools. Her team won all but one debate and placed second. Well done!
2 Oakley girls were awarded for their entries into an Art competitionto respond the theme 'Our world’. Entries were on display for students to cast their vote. Well done to Greycious who came third and Winnie who came second!
Recently, all 4th and 5th Form Computer Science students entered the Perse Coding Competition Round 1. This challenging competition involves students working in pairs to solve a series of coding problems under timed conditions. Nationally, over 10,000 students took part in the exceptionally challenging Pathfinder competition. Amy Wang received her Merit award in Routh Assembly.
We have had a plethora of House sporting competitions and I have been really impressed with the enthusiasm and team spirit shown by the girls. They have definitely lived up to the saying ‘it’s the taking part that counts’! It is wonderful to see their camaraderie and House loyalty over a number of events and I would like to thank everyone for their participation in the 1.2 relays, Junior and Senior netball, House volleyball and House football:
At the start of the half term, many girls took part on stage and behind the scenes in our Cultures Connect event. It was wonderful to see talent and pride in students’ cultures come together in a truly wonderful evening:
We were especially proud of Oakley’s L4 tutor, Ms Perez who showed off her Flamenco skills:
Wishing you a good week.
