Dear Oakley Parents and Guardians
It has been, characteristically, a very busy start to the new term and academic year. We have been very happy to welcome our new students to Oakley House and it has been wonderful watching them adapt quickly to their new school.
The boarders’ induction concluded with a trip to Oxford, during which new friendships were already being forged:
I would like to thank our returning boarders who were on hand to help the new girls settle in; they were brilliant ambassadors for Oakley and Bromsgrove:
This morning in Routh Assembly there was much to celebrate. We were very proud of Tajvy who received a Gold Award in the Biology Challenge, an international competition; over 45,000 students took part. The top 5% of students received the top award and Tajvy was among 11 who were awarded Gold. Well done, Tajvy!
In the Physics Challenge in the 6th Form, Julie J, Shirley S and Lina S achieved Bronze, and Bernice T also achieved Bronze in the Chemistry Challenge. Well done to all our scientists in Oakley.
As well as being in tutor groups and new academic class settings, within Oakley we group students into Teams so that new students can get to know the Monitors and have another outlet for support, should they need it. On Friday, during House time, they were set a challenge to come with the most inventive and original photo of their Teams. They did not disappoint! Obviously the promise of a McDonalds lunch was definitely an incentive:
And the Oakley staff couldn’t resist getting involved too.
At the end of the first week we treated the whole house to a pizza and games night, led by our Monitor team:
Wishing you all a good week ahead.
Best wishes
Victoria
