Dear Oakley Parents and Guardians

Our House Charity this year is Help For Heroes and you will remember the fundraising 5k the girls took part in back in October. The Monitors held a bake sale last week and Oakley was full of visitors coming to treat themselves at breaktime. They raised a respectable £185.40, taking our total to over £1000 so far which is a great achievement. Well done girls!

House netball competitions took place at the end of January and I was delighted with the team spirit demonstrated by our seniors and juniors. Games lost, games won and a sense of camaraderie and fun was shown by every girl. My thanks to the juniors Ava, Kerron, Avanti, Zoe, Celina, Tanvi, Yana and seniors Sophia, Sai-Nam, Prin, Ashlina, Ibby, Selai, Caro, Jette, and Rainie – for representing Oakley so well.

Last week, the Young Enterprise team, Habitex, visited Manchester’s Trafford Centre to launch their educational game and book to the public. They won the judges’ award – well done to Karis and Ashna!

Our House Drama entry this year was expertly led and directed by Ibukun. Petya made her Bromsgrove stage debut alongside Esinam in a piece by X called X. The duo held the audience in the palm of their hands and Esinam was quite rightly celebrated as Best Actor on the night! Another trophy for the Oakley cabinet.

The House Music competitions also took place last week. You can imagine our delight when Oakley won the top award again for Best Ensemble! Hours and hours of rehearsals really paid off in a performance of Rewrite the Stars with Karis on flute, Trissie on the piano, Yana on guitar and Clara, Bernice T, Alvina and Alicia with incredible vocals. The next night, Trissie got through to the finals in the solo competition too!

Over the weekend we marked Chinese New Year and the start of the Year of the Dragon. The whole house received a lucky red envelope and the weekend was filled with a LOT of cooking! 新年快乐 !

Although everyone is ready for the end of a busy term, the Monitors still took the time to help the House mark Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day) this week. Mr Snelling assisted with the batch cooking and we all enjoyed the sweet treats.

And then the Monitors chose to mark ‘Galentines’ as well as Saint Valentines Day on Wednesday. The girls woke to a love-themed common room and in the evening were spoiled with more sweet treats and a romantic movie. There was a lovely mood among friends.

Wishing you all a lovely half term break with your daughters. Those who are staying in school will also enjoy a rest, no doubt. I look forward to seeing them all again on Sunday 25th February.

Best wishes
Victoria
