End of Summer Term - June 2022
Dear Parents,
It has been a brilliant year! I have really enjoyed it and I know the girls have enjoyed each other’s company. It is amazing how much COVID makes you appreciate friends and colleagues. I have been very pleased and proud of the friendly and supportive nature that exists in Thomas Cookes. The girls recognise problems and try to deal with them in a very mature way. With that in mind, I have been interviewing the Lower Sixth this week for House Monitor roles and one of the aspects that came up was vertical relationships. This means me looking at the buddying and peer support system and perhaps changing it a little. From September, each girl will be part of a House family where you get together with girls from other year groups and just talk about how you can help,
obviously bonding can take place over a game of table football or cards, but I am generally hoping that the wise ones in the Upper Sixth can aid and advise those who are younger.
In terms of sport, we have competed well this term. Junior House Rounders was won with an excellent team who not only battled well but fielded sensibly. In Senior House Rounders, we came second without a full team as many of the Lower Sixth have had commitments elsewhere in the last few weeks. In Junior House Tennis, we went in with a good team but were pipped to the post by Ottilie Hild. Once again, the girls have shown great commitment to sport in the School with many of them competing for the Athletics and Tennis teams.
The Lower Fourth had the most wonderful week for camp. They thoroughly enjoyed raft building and paddle boarding, although I think the walk was very hot with a full rucksack on their back. Many of the Lower Sixth went out to help and also enjoyed their time away from School.
Much fun has been had by many at House events. We all enjoyed a picnic outside in the TC garden at the end of exams. It was everyone’s way of celebrating the jubilee and the end of exams. The weather was glorious and we all had lots to eat. Thank you to all those families who sent in cakes.
The Junior play this term was Romeo and Juliet. For anyone who did not get to see it, it was the most fun interpretation of Romeo and Juliet I have ever seen. We had many members of TC involved Including Emily Collett, Maria Christodoulou and Katie Harris, and I was particularly impressed with Isla Chattin. She played the part of Juliet showing great talent on the stage.
The Bake-Off was a great success this term. We came third with a well-designed cake that demonstrated the struggles in the environment. It was a double headed turtle one surviving well and flourishing, and the other being damaged by the environment. Charlotte James made the sponge which was a marble of blue and green. Wonderful colours.
I have very much appreciated the staff who support the girls. Firstly, I would like to thank Mr Prouse. He has been a tutor in TC for two years. He is now moving to Mary Windsor as he wants to involve himself in the boarding life of the School more. We would all like to wish him well in his new House.
All the tutors have been brilliant this year. Ever helpful and professional, I cannot fault them in their work. They support the girls unreservedly and always give the best advice.
Lorraine, as you know, is always supportive in the House and is someone that your girls turn to if they need a bit of help. I would like to thank her for all her help this year.
In particular, I would also like to thank the TCPA. They have been organising events all year and have supported all my venture. They have contributed towards Pancake Day, Pizza nights and the New Year Party.
