A level Results 2017

“In a year in which A level students have faced the challenge of new courses and changes to the qualifications system, I am delighted that Bromsgrove’s students have once again performed well,” said Peter Clague, Headmaster of Bromsgrove School.

The 220 Upper Sixth leavers took in total 733 subject qualifications this year. Overall more than a quarter of all results achieved the equivalent of an A* and just over three-fifths achieved at least an A grade. The A*- B percentage achieved is 80%.

Six pupils achieved more than five A grades, twenty achieved four or more A grades with 43 gaining at least three A grades. Notable amongst these is Oscar Chou with four A*s and a further three A grades. Oscar will continue to read Medicine at the University of Hong Kong.

Bromsgrove offers a wider choice than just A levels in the Sixth Form. A large number of pupils study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, and these results, published in July, were once again superb with an average score of 39.1 points, the School’s highest ever IB average. 49% of our 43 candidates achieving 40 points or above and in Higher Level subjects, 45% of entries scored a 7 (equivalent to an A* at A level), whilst the equivalent A*/A rate was 88%.

A number of students also have the opportunity to sit BTEC qualifications. Between them these pupils achieved 52 Distinction* grades (equivalent to a grade A at A level) with a further 8 Distinctions amongst a total entry of 62 qualifications.

In addition, three quarters of the year group undertook significant enriching personalised study in terms of either the IB Core or the Extended Project Qualification(EPQ) as part of their sixth form studies. IB students averaged 2.1 Core points whilst 65 A*s were gained in the EPQ.

All students holding offers from Oxbridge met their offers and the university destinations of leavers include an impressive list of top world and UK universities with pupils winning scholarships to NYU in Abu Dhabi (Academic Scholarship), the University of British Columbia (International Leader of Tomorrow Award) and the University of Mount Olive (International Scholarship).

IB Results 2018

Bromsgrove School is delighted to report an average score of 38.2 points from its biggest cohort since starting the qualification in 2010. This score is equivalent to 4 x A* at A level.

All fifty-six students scored above the IB’s world average score with 30 or more points, with twenty students gaining a result of 40 points or more. Two students gained 44, just one point away from the top possible score of 45. A further five students gained 43 points.

Whilst university destinations are in some cases still be confirmed, we are expecting two-fifths of this group to progress to undergraduate courses at one of the more competitive London Schools or Colleges including LSE, Imperial UCL or KCL.

Well done to all the students on these fantastic results – they have all worked hard and should be proud of their achievement.

GCSE Results 2017

Against a backdrop of ongoing uncertainty about national examination reforms, Bromsgrove School’s Fifth Form have achieved a superb set of GCSE results which are amongst the School’s best. 36% of the total grades achieved were graded A*, representing Bromsgrove’s highest ever top end result. 60% of results were graded A*/A, also amongst the best results a Fifth Form cohort has achieved. The overall grade spread continues to be on a par with the strong performances the School has come to expect in recent years.

There will be many happy students and families in Bromsgrove and around the world as they log on to their results and anticipate the next exciting step in their lives. Particular congratulations go to Alia Derriey who achieved a full house of A*s or 9s, and to local pupil Sam Osborne who achieved all A8 & A grades whilst also attending swimming training session to represent GB during this year. Well done to the six students dropped only a single grade in one of their subjects.

Headmaster Peter Clague said, “These grades represent a significant personal achievement for each student as their first experience of national public examinations. They are the culmination of hard work and perseverance, an encouragement of the potential that lies inside each of them. Collectively, the results do not merely reflect well on our student body, but also showcase the dedication and quality of staff at Bromsgrove School, outstanding educators who are the architects of aspiration and success.”
