Golfing Success Continues
On Tuesday, 19th October, the Bromsgrove School Golf team continued their success in the HMC competition.
After a bye in the first round of the HMC Foursomes, the team faced Ellesmere College in the second round. It was a dark and windy afternoon at Blackwell Golf Course with the winter greens' work leaving putting a bit of a lottery.
Lili-Rose H and James H played very well against the top Ellesmere pair but the difficult putting conditions meant a few holes went begging and they eventually lost on the last.
Thomas G and James B were our second pair and their match ebbed and flowed: Two down after two, three up at the turn and back to all square by the 18th. However, a well taken par secured the victory for them by one hole.
The last pair of Prin W and Euan C had never met, let alone played together before the match. However, after a difficult start and 3 down after 10 holes, they started to find their rhythm. Prin holed a 50 foot putt on the 12th and then put her tee shot on the 13th to within a foot and Euan confidently holed the putt. The 17th was a win meaning a half at the last would secure victory. However, a par from Ellesmere took the match to extra holes. Prin's tee shot was just short of the green, Euan played a tricky chip to within 8 feet with both feet in a bunker. Ellesmere also missed the green and their chip landed short of the flag. Their putt just missed the hole but they were in for four shots. Prin calmly rolled the 8 foot putt in to win the match for Bromsgrove.
The team now progress to the Midlands Semi-Final where they meet Cheltenham or Monmouth.
