Music and The Arts at Bromsgrove Pre-Preparatory & Nursery School
Music plays an important role in life at the Pre-Preparatory and Nursery School, with singing in particular being used across the curriculum to support and enhance learning. We have specialist teaching from Nursery through to the end of Key Stage One. Children are introduced to the correct terminology and are taught progressive skills covering the different musical elements in a weekly lesson.
Performances throughout the School Year include the Harvest Service, the Nativity Play and Christmas Service, as well as the whole school Advent Service. At the end of Year 2, pupils are involved in a special Leavers' Service in the Senior School Memorial Chapel.
Parents are also invited to Creative Curriculum assemblies in the Michaelmas and Lent Terms, with a Musical Production for parents in Nursery and at the end of Year Two.
Pre-Preparatory Instrumental Lessons
During the early years, all pupils are encouraged to enjoy and learn about music. Below are just some of the initiatives that take place for Pre-Prep pupils.
Fife: Fife lessons are available after school for Year 2 pupils and provide an excellent and fun way to start learning a musical instrument. Instruments and books are provided and the group play ensemble pieces in assembly.
Violin: Following on from a very successful after school violin group initiative we started in September 2012, there are now several pupils who have continued their violin studies into the Prep School. Currently, there are violin group lessons for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. Early application is recommended as there has been great interest in subscribing to these classes.
