House Update 12th March 2018

Dear All,

It has been fantastic week for School House, with the members of the house demonstrating skill and stamina as well as academic excellence. Over the last five days we have been crowned winners of the Senior House Hockey competition and the inter house quiz competition.

The hockey team of Euan Vaughan-Hawkins, Anders Giles, Joe Houlcroft, Charlie Smart, Tom Maidment, Ben Turner and Liam Holland-Bunch, were comfortably captained to victory by Will Randall, in a competition where they won all matches except for one (which was still a draw), asserting their dominance over all the other male houses in the school. The team looked calm throughout, and appeared never in doubt that the victory was theirs for the taking. The Junior House Hockey team were less successful, but a fantastic effort from those involved with a strong win against Walters in their final match.

On the intellectual side the team of Liam Holland-Bunch, Archie Holder, Tom Chapman, Zef Ruben and Harry Richards stormed to victory in the first ever; "Question of House" quiz competition. The speed on the buzzer and sheer depth of general knowledge that the team displayed was quite incredible. The team was perfectly balanced and with the combination of Archie's wealth of knowledge and ability to cram on great artistic works, Tom Chapmans ability to recall any fact about music, whether classical or modern and Harry "chickpea" Richards being able to recall the more obscure facts at the drop of a hat, it is no surprise that Lyttelton struggled to get an answer in. A mention must go to Max Rusling, who was part of the team in the first round, helping ensure that School House made it to the final.

Earlier in the week Archie Holder and Sam Ison had also been busy preparing for, and performing during Senior House drama, and with a little improvisation gave a fantastic performance, and were as ever a true credit to the House.

Next Tuesday will be a slightly later finish for the boys of the house as we have organised the bubble football to run from activities until roughly 8pm, which will include pizza after the game. For the L6th we will ensure that all are finished in time for the futures presentation which begins at 7pm, so they won’t miss out on either.

The bustle of this term continues on this week, with the boys having the 1.2 race on Friday lunchtime, inter house football on Saturday and an own clothes day on Friday (which will require a donation of £2).

If anyone could make a donations (chocolate/sweets) for the tombola before the end of next week, we would be very grateful.

Future dates for your diary:
• Thursday 15th Mar - Whole School PA Liaison.
• Friday 23rd Mar - School House Charity tombola.
• House Breakfast and presentation of house donation to the basement project representative 11th May 2018.
