End of Lent Term 2019
April 8th 2019
Dear Parents,
We have had another amazing term! The girls have all worked hard, played hard and done many things together. This has been a long term but it has been full of house events with many successes. One interesting fact I happened upon, while researching the greatness of TC for this letter, was that we came second in the House Commendations listings. This means that TC as a house achieved 256 commendations this term (second only to Oakley who have 150 girls). Hannah Hunt in fact beat the whole School for the most commendations this term. She received 16. Well done!
Music and Drama were particular strengths this term with fantastic performances in both the Junior and the Senior drama as well as the House music ensemble and solo. In the Junior drama, I thought the cast were superb in ‘Daisy Pulls it off’ but Jessica Whitlock winning best actress was outstanding. This was directed by Holly Heslop and Holly Nichols. Senior House drama was no less convincing this time with Holly Heslop and Holly Nichols performing alongside Lucia Goodwin, Emily Clark, Elizabeth Aston, Megan Bassett- McWilliams and Francesca Mellor . The drama written by Holly Nichols was called’ Seven ways to win seven ways to lose’. I do not think I will forget Elizabeth Aston as Greed for quite some time to come.
In music, I know many of the TC girls have performed every week in a band or orchestra. Many of them are often involved in the informal lunchtime concerts. On Tuesday I was lucky enough to see Pop and Jazz and a number of TC girls. This is a much more relaxed type of concert and if you enjoy this type of music I would like to recommend it to you. The House group ensemble( Sophia Meadows, Layla Raine, Charlotte James, Keira Sehdeva, Katie Burke and Emily Lyle) sang Hallelujah which was brilliant and Keira Sehdeva was fantastic in the solo competition both were fiercely fought competitions.
We have also done very well in both Junior and Senior debate. I thought the juniors (Maddie Chance and Keira Sehdeva) worked hard and the Seniors (Francesca Mellor and Liz Aston) were impressive to get from the first round into the final rounds. The members of the quiz team also did well to get through to the final stage. The team was very competitive in the group stages. Very well done to them all.
Cross-Country has been a real area of excellence this term. Natalie Hatfield has excelled in the Biathlon as she represents GB and was our 1.2 final leg runner. She ran the fastest lap of the 1.2 course and is to be congratulated on her award. However, the 1.2s are a real team effort and everyone contributed a fine leg. It is not easy to run quickly (almost a sprint) for 1.2 Miles.
In the house Cross Country we won the Junior event with excellent runs from Natalie Hatfield and Sophia Meadows. In the seniors we were not as fortunate but I know they were working hard and all finished in good times.
There has also been a lot of fun to be had in minor sports this term. The U6th were impressive in the Volleyball with lots of giggling between points. They seemed amazed that they were actually that good. I thought they had some budding talent. We have also had House Badminton and Table Tennis where members of the house have just enjoyed having some competitive fun sport together. A couple of new ones for this year were Rock climbing and Squash. Holly Nichols was able to represent the House in the Rock climbing. She did well finishing in the top three. Emma Dolan and Lucy McLoughlin performed well in the Squash and won.
The final major sport of the term has been Netball. We have had two TC girls in the 1st VII which has reached three national finals this term. Hannah Barwell and Rosie Butts have been outstanding ambassadors for the School and the House and have represented the the School at the highest level. They are to be congratulated. In House netball they were involved in the Senior competition and we performed well in the A team event but lost out to Housman. The ‘B’ team Senior event was won by a fantastic team, ably led by Emily Lyle. In the Junior A team competition again we were narrowly beaten by Hazeldene. But again the ‘B’ team won. Many congratulations.
We have also had a number of food events this term. House breakfast, House Pancakes, House Easter egg hunt and a number of year groups have had pizza for lunch. It has been lovely to see the girls enjoying one another’s company and relaxing in the House.
The Ball, run by the School House PA, was a hugely successful occasion. Many of the Girls looked beautiful in their dresses. This is a special occasion where both the parents and pupils can socialise. The evening went very well. I would like to thank School House PA for all the organisation and enthusiasm that went into this occasion.
I have some huge thank yous this term. I am very lucky to have a very experienced and professional tutor team. The girls all know that they help them and they help me too. Lots of reports have been completed and lots of feedback has been given to you (the parents). I could not do this on my own I need the tutor team. So I would like to thank them all for their efforts
Also, Lorraine not only cleans and organises around the house but I know she is often a listening ear. I would just like to thank her for all her hard work and dedication this term.
