Dear Parents and Guardians

The past fortnight has been absolutely packed with success and fun events. I hope the following resume does all of the efforts justice:

The U6 musicians treated us to a lovely evening recital in Routh Hall. Amy Nolan’s vocals in Stand By Me were spine tingling. Lisa Bradburn and Christie Lloyd performed For Good from Wicked. The lyrics were poignant as they near the end of their time at Bromsgrove and I have asked them to reprise this at our end of term assembly. The fact that Sophie Roy accompanied them on the piano added to the emotional performance.

Oakley was awarded the runner up prize in the prestigious Senior House Drama Competition. They were even asked to reprise the opening at Routh Assembly in front of the whole School. They borught the house down with their wonderful interpretation of Pyramus and Thisbe from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A true collaboration and my congratulations go to the whole team: Phoebe, Ellie, Louisa, Pippa, Amy and Lydia. Phoebe Fletcher directed an outstanding piece.

More drama success as our GCSE and A Level students showcased their examination pieces this week. Anya Butler shone in three diverse excerpts from 17C drama, a magnificent Queen Margaret monologue from Richard III and a witty Alan Bennett piece. In the GCSE scenes, it was a delight to see Rosika Gurung, Mila Shulzik and Heidi Neuman perform solo and ensemble pieces from the challenging work of Dennis Kelly. They brought the cruel terror of DNA to life. It was great to see support from the Oakley audience.

House netball saw success in the plate and the cup. Oakley Seniors came second in the plate but were the winners in the cup competition and we are delighted. This came a day after our national netballers achieved another outstanding win in the Sisters n Sport national finals. Once again, our sincere congratulations to Oakley girls who ended the season in such style: Louisa, Corey, Catie and Ellie.

We have enjoyed some special occasions in House to help the girls survive a most demanding and long term. The Monitors hosted a wellbeing hot chocolate event at breaktime:

Miss Woolley organised a brilliant Tiki disco last Friday. The girls danced all evening and spirits were high:

Treat Friday went down well yesterday:

And I enjoyed hosting a House breakfast for all last week:

Last night, our U6 enjoyed their CCF dinner:

And finally, this weekend sees Mothering Sunday in the UK. We celebrated by spoiling the best mothers in Oakley – Mrs Pugh and Mrs Astill. Their support of your daughters is remarkable and we couldn’t make Oakley the amazing place it is without their help.

Happy Mothering Sunday to all.
