Dear Parents and Guardians
Blue skies above Oakley House yesterday as boarders returned. With the whole House back today and mocks beginning, it’s nice to have the promise of Spring just around the corner.
We enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year in House – all girls received a ‘lucky’ (chocolate) money envelope!
Just before half term, there was much to celebrate in Oakley. Our congratulations go to Cherry Fung who came 3rd in the U19 Girls County Table Tennis Competition as well as teammates Sanniva Chang and Jenna Wong.
The strongly contested House Music Competitions did not disappoint. We were runners up in the Ensemble category with the judge commenting that we were “well presented with imaginative staging. Super use of strings supporting strong vocals. Wonderfully equal and great reat harmonies and a brilliant piano. A Wonderful performance!” Congratulations to the whole team: Meredith Atkinson, Kalea Booth, Lisa Bradburn, Jasmine Chan, Phoebe Fletcher, Ellie Johnson, Kelly Lin, Amy Nolan, Louise Osborne and Sophie Roy.
Laura Yong played her traditional Chinese instrument in the Advanced solo category. The judge praised her “beautiful instrument and lovely spoken introduction. The performance was always convincing as Laura played with ease”. Well done, Laura!
I continue to be thrilled at the generosity and ingenuity of Oakley House’s fundraising ambitions. As you know, this year we are supporting Kidscan. We suggested that girls contributed a little extra on non-uniform day and Mrs Pugh has been selling her beautiful crocheted gloves, raising a combined total of £187. The Monitors also led a Valentines film night and tuckshop that raised £75. Fantastic work, led by House Charity Monitors Sophie Roy and Georgie Muscutt.
Looking ahead to a busy six weeks we have House Cross Country, 1.2 Relays, House Netball, House Challenge, Sports Day, Pop and Jazz Concert, Cultures Connect, the U6 Leavers’ Meal and the Oakley Ball. Your daughters will be very busy!
Best wishes
Victoria
