Dear Parents and Guardians

As the weather temperatures have plummeted in the UK, Bromsgrove appears to have missed out on the snow this year. The disruption caused by last year’s weather seems to have been such a long time ago. Remember this?

Two super House competition successes to report on this week. My congratulations to our Senior House badminton winners, Aida, Cherry, Jasmine and Michelle:

Aida also played well in the Senior House Table Tennis competition, alongside Jenna Wong and we were runners up.

And our second award this week came in the Junior House Drama Competition. My thanks to all who took part. It was a very entertaining evening and the Oakley actors walked away with the evening’s Special Recognition Award. Phoebe Fletcher and Ellie Johnson, assisted by Amy Nolan, directed the group in their performance of ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell. The performers demonstrated “projection, power and menace”, according to the adjudicator. Their finished piece took many hours, possibly a few tears, and the understanding of day parents who would have had to deal with the knock-on effects of late rehearsals, with a good many girls battling colds and flu too. I hope you agree that their wonderful performance was worth the effort. Well done to:

Sophia Eaton, Claire Gracey, Polly Green, Charlotte Holden, Gabrielle Krevnevičiūtė, Pilar Contreras Peinado, Liza Potekhina, Sophie Pover, Esme Elwell-Thomas, Freya Tweddell, Marta Wiewiorska, Brooke-Lily Yorke and Yillin Zhu. How fantastic to see our boarders and day students collaborating so successfully, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Special mention to Rose Willetts who was sorry to miss the performance but who contributed enormously to the group’s preparations. The girls seemed to enjoy their McDonalds treat:

Congratulations to Tatiana Morikova who won a bronze medal in a recent fencing competition:

There was outstanding success from the netball teams last weekend. Huge congratulations to both our 1st and U14 netball teams who were crowned Regional Champions. Both teams won all of their 6 pool matches, cruised through their semi-finals and both went on to beat RGS, Worcester in competitive finals. They now look forward to the National Finals in March. From Oakley we are especially proud of Ellie Preece, Catie Ranger, Corey-Jo McGLynn, Louisa Maynard, Alanna Pullen, Angelina Sanghera and Louise Osborne.

There are now just two busy weeks left of this half term. With Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I am sure we will think of a few things to keep spirits buoyant during this cold weather snap.

Best wishes
Victoria
