On Tuesday 25th February, the U13 girls hockey team took part in the County hockey tournament held at Bishop Perowne School.
Only three teams entered this competition, but they are arguably the strongest teams in the Worcestershire area. The first game was against RGS who had just beaten King's Worcester 1 - 0 in the first game so we knew it would be tough, especially as RGS were well into their stride. We went 1 - 0 down in the first two minutes giving Bromsgrove a serious wake up call! We began to play some good hockey and passing improved as we gained in confidence. We managed to score an equaliser and the 1 - 1 score remained the same despite chances for both sides in the second half. Emily Lyle made some crucial saves, and our defence Lydia Wright and Scarlett Fender stayed strong at the back, cutting out any attacking drives by the opposition.
Our second game was against King's and this is where Bromsgrove stepped up their game, putting some great attacking play together, using the width of the pitch and were 'goal hungry'. Fleur Gallagher, Emily Gieron and Jessica Ward all scored to give Bromsgrove a 3 - 0 victory, to be crowned County Champions. At last, a tournament not decided by penalty flicks.
A special mention must go to Olivia Corcoran and Fleur Gallagher who played up a year to represent the U13 age group and coped admirably with the task. Players of the tournament go to Emily Gieron and Lydia Wright.
