On Tuesday, 15th May, Prep and Senior athletes were in action in the first round of the National ESAA Track and Field Cup at the Ryland Centre.

Prep Boys

Blessed by fantastic weather, the Prep boys produced a points total of 432 points that has only ever been beaten in the first round by pupils back in 2011.

Louis U became the first Bromsgrove boy ever to run under the magical 12 second mark, where he came a phenomenal 11.9 seconds in the 80 metres hurdles, which incidentally is the equal fastest time in this event in England so far for this season.

Zachary A set a new School record in the 3.0kg shot put with a throw of 11.67 metres.

Fyodor S became our second best ever hammer thrower with a throw of 29.39 metres.

The boys achieved the following points individual:

Platinum standard (40 points or more in two events)

Louis U 48 points (30 points in hurdles, first ever Bromsgrove Prep boy to score 30 points in a single track event – PB Hurdles)
Harry D-B 44 points (only second boy this century to throw over 30 metres in the discus – PB in the discus)
Billy M 42 points (PB in 80m Hurdles and Triple Jump)

Louis and Billy scored the highest total number of points in a single track event, 80metres Hurdles, with 52 points

Silver standard (28 points or more in two events)

Zach A 38 points (PB Shot Putt)
Cyrus P 33 points (PB in 800 metres and Shot Putt)

Each individual contributed towards the team’s success, with Matt B scoring over 40 points, although all will be hoping to better this when they compete at the Midlands Final later this term.

Intermediate Girls

The intermediate girls’ team performed well to win the round by amassing 377 points. It was a great team effort but a special mention needs to go to Daisy-Mai C and Hannah S who were the top point scorers for the team attaining 46 and 43 points respectively.

The Intermediate Girls are looking forward to competing in the Midlands Final later in the term.
